100 years ago, thousands of refugees from an ancient land sailed across a vast ocean to escape war. They landed at the gates of a large, mysterious, abandoned city. A city with a sign that read, “welcome to the City of Veil. Thank you…” A city 100 square miles, enclosed within massive walls, protecting the deserted city from the monsters that lived outside of it’s gates. A city filled with inactive constructions and contraptions the likes of which have never been known. A city riddled with questions but very few answers. Although strange, the refugees quickly inhabited the buildings, set up a government, an economy, adopting the City of Veil as their own.

Arcane Ash was soon discovered beyond the gates and became a powerful resource for the growth of the City of Veil. Arcane Ash powered the trains hanging overhead, the lamps that dotted the streets, the lifts that floated between stories, power the illusionariums, and brought to life the mechanical humanoids known as the Clockwork.

Today, the citizens thrive within the walls and gates of the City of Veil. Speakers of the Wards administrate, the Dawnguard protect, the Custodians maintain, the Recorders document, and the Collectors venture beyond the gates to farm arcane ash and to continue to uncover answers to the mystery that is the city of Veil.
